COMMUNITY - "Sidewalk masterpieces of art"

BOX ELDER COUNTY - By Cari Doutre - May 5, 2020

The art of sidewalk chalk creations have made a big comeback in recent weeks as families and children are spending more time at home during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) quarantine.

With that in mind, The Valley Headliner - BRVNEWS.com decided to put local sidewalk chalk artist to the test and encouraged readers to submit their chalk art creations to be shared with the entire community. And what they got were some true artistic masterpieces!

Story continues below.

Encouraging local artists and creativity is one local business's specialty. Joining in on this featured contest as a generous sponsor was The Art Garage in Tremonton. Owned by Vicki Rhodes-Merryweather, she has been inspiring artists and expressions of artistic abilities for years in the Bear River Valley.

This year the most popular trend in sidewalk chalk art are colorful mosaics. These are made by placing strips of tape on concrete in a strategic or random manner and then coloring each mosaic part a different color. The end result is almost a stained glassed window effect with endless possibilities.

Submissions also included patriotic tributes by a pair of siblings, plenty of spot-on cartoon characters and even a cartoon alligator looking for his next meal!

All of those submissions, plus many more, can be found below.

Thank you to our sponsor Vicki at The Art Garage and to all of those that entered chalk art masterpieces! Be sure to visit The Art Garage's Facebook page HERE!

As promised on social media, one lucky artist received a special prize, donated by The Art Garage. David Bourgeous of Tremonton was the recipient of that prize for his chalk art creation below.
