BREAKING NEWS - "Fall 2020 sports approved to start on time by UHSAA"

SALT LAKE CITY – By Cari Doutre – July 9, 2020

High school sports in Utah will go as scheduled after the Utah High School Activities Association board of trustees unanimously approved the decision on Thursday, July 9.

This decision allows the following sports to start on schedule at Bear River High for fall 2020:

· Football

· Girls soccer

· Volleyball

· Cross country

· Girls tennis

· Boys golf

There are a few stipulations. Organizations, schools and teams must follow Utah’s color-coded COVID-19 (coronavirus) guidelines according to individual counties and health districts. Box Elder County, and all of Bear River Health Department's district, is currently in the Yellow Phase.

Social distancing guidelines must also be met and hand sanitizer is to be readily available and schools are required to clean and sanitize facilities and equipment.

The UHSAA will meet again in three weeks to reevaluate their decision.

"I am very excited and happy for this decision," said Van Park, Bear River High School's Athletic Director. "I am especially excited for our student athletes who have been anxiously wondering if they would have a season."

"However, there will be a whole new series of protocols that athletes, coaches, parents and spectators will have to learn and be vigilant at following so that it doesn't end prematurely," Park added.

Box Elder School District has not released any information on the 2020-2021 school year. BRVNEWS.com will report on their decision as soon as it becomes available.
