BREAKING NEWS - "First confirmed case of COVID-19 found in Box Elder County"

The Bear River Health Department has officially announced the first confirmed case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Box Elder County.

On Tuesday, March 17, the BRHD released a statement that can be found below.

Confusion about where in the Bear River Health Department’s health district the confirmed case was noted on social media, but the health department did confirm to The Valley Headliner – BRVNEWS.com that it is Box Elder County.

The Bear River Health Department serves three counties in their health district – Box Elder, Cache and Rich counties.

They did not identify the patient but stated, “The case is an adult between the ages of 18-60 years who is hospitalized. Due to medical privacy laws, Bear River Health Department will not release further information about the confirmed case.”

“The patient’s family has been asked to self-quarantine at home for 14 days and monitor themselves for symptoms throughout that time,” the statement added.

The statement added that the details of this case of COVID-19 is still under investigation but appears to be the result of exposure to a known case in Salt Lake County.

“We would like to remind the community that most people with COVID-19 experience only mild illness but as a community, we must slow down the spread of this disease,” said Lloyd Berentzen, Director of the Bear River Health Department.

The Bear River Health Department has closed one of their Logan locations, 635 S. 100 E., Logan) to “best utilize our staff and resources in response to COVID-19,” the statement added.
