UPDATE: 10:05 p.m. - The Messix Fire has burned 988 acres and is 15% contained.
Fire crews are responding to another wildfire in western Box Elder County this week. The Messix Fire started on Sunday, July 26, near Promontory, and is currently the second active wildfire in Box Elder County. There are nine active wildfires in Utah as of July 26.
Officials are stating that the blaze is near Old Town Promontory. The fire is currently 0% contained and is also threatening ranch homes and livestock in the area.
"It is estimated at 200 acres and growing," stated Utah Fire Info.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Still burning in rural Box Elder County is the Dennis Hill Fire that started on July 20. That fire burns near Park Valley and Rosette in the northwestern part of the county. According to Utah Fire Info, the blaze is 85% contained and has burned over 2,600 acres. The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
