BOX ELDER COUNTY - October 1, 2022
The Discovery Family Coalition has compiled all the local family-friendly activities into a thread on Facebook called “Box Elder Activities.” Whether you’re looking for a friendly pumpkin patch or a scary labyrinth, you’ll find all the details listed in the Discover Family Fun Brigham City group on Facebook.
“We love to support our local families in spending time together. Making memories actually builds resilience - which empowers our children to be able to handle life’s challenges in a healthy way,” explained Tori Jones, Box Elder Community Coordinator for the Discovery Family Coalition.
“Joining in Fall activities together helps to grow those important skills,” she added.
The Discovery Family Coalition works with local organizations such as the Bear River Health Department, Box Elder School District and city governments to help prevent negative outcomes in our community such as alcohol and tobacco use, teen pregnancy and domestic violence.
“We like to call ourselves a promotion coalition rather than a prevention coalition, though,” Jones said. “Instead of focusing on what we want to prevent, we focus on what actually works to prevent it. Family bonding and connection to community are what result in fewer negative outcomes. So, we work to make intentional parenting easy. One of the ways we make intentional parenting easier is by compiling this list of local family-friendly activities.”
Jones maintains the Box Elder Activities list year ‘round. “We started it at the beginning of the summer, and rather than start a new thread that families would need to find, we decided to continue updating the same thread.” Families can save the post and sign up for notifications on that thread to see the new activities as they are updated.
“We don’t just put in Fall-themed activities - there are concerts, nature viewing events, all of the local, family-friendly activities,” she added.
As new events such as Christmas celebrations are planned, the Discovery Family Coalition will continue to post them in the thread. The top of the post lists all the upcoming activities chronologically. The comments on the post give details for each activity.
“Be sure you click ‘See previous replies’ to make sure you see them all,” Jones said.
The easiest way to find the thread is to check the Discover Family Fun Brigham City or Discover Family Fun Tremonton groups on Facebook. This is the direct link:
“We hope that the Box Elder Activities thread will become an ongoing tradition for Box Elder families,” Jones said. “Keep checking back for more activities year-round!”
