Tis the season!

Time to celebrate the holidays with those we love. It is also time once more to join Garland business owners, Patti and Shane “Sofa” Grover, as they spearhead their Thankful for Our Troops campaign.

This fundraising event is in its eighth year and with the help of donations from neighbors, friends and businesses, this couple, owners of Sofa’s Corner, are able to send care packages to locals who are away from home serving in the military. This year’s goal is to reach 100 boxes, exceeding last year’s total of 76. Adding their support to the efforts will be another local business, The Gun Loft.

A gift registry has already been set up at Amazon, complete with items specially requested by those serving away from home. Those items include everything from socks to sandwich bags, deodorant to dental floss – with a few special sweet treats thrown in. That link, for those interested in helping, is https://www.amazon.com/registries/custom/1KV3A0RQPRDO7/guest-view

Items selected will ship directly to the Grovers to be added to the care packages.

During November, Sofa’s Corner also accepts direct cash donations (or Venmo) to help purchase additional items. Those with smaller items they would like to donate can also bring them in, Patti said. They may also be dropped off at The Gun Loft, Tremonton Liquor or Garden Gate Floral.

She said Dr. Rod Gardner has already offered to donate toothpaste to be included in the boxes, and help from other local businesses would be welcomed.

To add to the fun and cover the cost of the shipping on the packages ($18 per box), Sofa’s Corner hosts the bar’s big Bingo night to be held December 3. Bingo winners take home great donated prizes during the night. Those wishing to submit any big-ticket items for the Bingo Bash may also deliver them to the above locations.
