"Headliner Athletes of the Week" April 13-19, 2020

Alethea Nay

Alethea Nay, a senior at Bear River High School, is in her third year of playing water polo. She is the girls’ team goalie and has been playing goalie since she started.

“Alethea has been very excited for her senior year and has done a lot of work in the off season to strengthen her legs and arm to improve her skills in the cage. In the three games this season, Alethea had 32 blocks. She was averaging 10.7 saves per game and was undefeated,” said Bear River water polo head coach Danny Esplin.

“Alethea has really helped our team step up to the next level and we were looking to make a run for the state championship with Alethea being a cornerstone of the team,” Esplin added.

Alethea is the daughter of Jenny Nay.

Emilio Mendoza

Emilio Mendoza, a member of the Bear River High boys’ soccer team, has been a vital part of the soccer program at Bear River High since his sophomore year.

“I’m not sure how long he has been playing, but I do know it has been a long time. He has played at a competitive level for quite some time,” said Bear River boys’ head soccer coach Jesse Esquivel.

“I include that because it takes time, effort, desire and everything else that goes along with that to give that kind of passion for something you love,” Esquivel added.

Emilio is a senior at Bear River High School and is the son of Rojelio and Melissa Mendoza.
