DILON WRIGHT
Dilon Wright, a senior at Bear River High and a member of the boys’ wrestling team, is this week’s featured Headliner Athlete of the Week.
He went undefeated at last Saturday’s Syracuse Scuffle on Jan. 2, 2021. Competing in the 126-pound weight division, Dilon pinned four opponents and had an 8-2 win over his American Fork High opponent.
“Dillon has put the time in off season to be a better wrestler and it’s paying off to this point,” said Bear River High boys’ wrestling coach Jeff Smart.
Dilon is the son of Nathan and Melanie Wright.
HAILEY BRANCH
This week’s featured Headliner Athlete of the Week goes to Hailey Branch, a member of the Bear River High girls’ wrestling team this year.
On Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, Hailey took second place in the 124-pound weight division at the Lady Pirates Invitational at Cyprus High losing only once in the finals to her Westlake High opponent. She went 2-1 overall at the Bears’ first tournament, and competition, of the season.
“Hailey is very quiet but when she steps onto the mat, she is a fierce competitor,” said Jason Bingham, Bear River High girls’ wrestling coach. “She has the heart for it too.”
Her fierceness is what Bingham calls, “her greatest attribute” as a wrestler and as a competitor.
Hailey is a junior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Matt and Melissa Branch.
