JEFFERSON KOWALLIS

This week’s featured Headliner Athlete of the Week at BRVNEWS.com goes to Jefferson Kowallis for his addition to the Bear River High School boys’ swim team this season.

Jefferson took fourth place in the Region 12 championship meet in the 100m breaststroke event on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Mountain Crest High School.

“Jeff has emerged as one of 4A’s top breaststrokers. He performed well at region in both of his races and was able to medal in the breaststroke. He is ranked in the top 10 in the state and is looking to medal at the state championship meet,” said Danny Esplin, head coach for the Bear River High swim team.

Jefferson is a senior at Bear River High School and is the son of Kendall and Kristen Kowallis.

MADYSON MICKELSEN

Madyson Mickelsen is this week’s featured Headliner Athlete of the Week at BRVNEWS.com for taking second place in the Region 12 championship swim meet last weekend in the 200m freestyle and for medaling in the 100m backstroke.

“When she started swimming as a freshman, she did not have a lot of experience with swimming. She has worked hard through the years and has become one of the top swimmers in 4A,” said Bear River High’s head swim coach Danny Esplin.

“She is also extremely humble. She has never bragged about her accomplishments or wanted special attention. Madyson is a great person, student and swimmer and will go on to do great things in the world,” Esplin added.

Madyson is a senior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Ira and Jeniel Mickelsen.
