BEAR RIVER HIGH - September 28, 2020

Kace Jones and Kenya Tomlinson are this week’s featured Headliner Athletes of the Week at - sponsored by Chanshare Farms. Thank you for supporting local journalism and high school sports in the Bear River Valley!

This week’s Headliner Athlete of the Week goes to Kenya Tomlinson as a member of the Bear River High School girls’ cross-country team this year.

After battling injuries her junior year, Tomlinson decided to focus on getting healthy and her senior season of soccer. Just recently she decided to help again with the girls’ cross-country team for the Bears.

“We have just been injured all season on the girls’ side, especially with the varsity. There are plenty of great things happening, but ugh, the injury bug has hit us. We thought about two weeks ago to ask Kenya if she wanted to give it another go her senior year. We hesitated, but then asked. She said yes and at the end of the race today she was happy, her family was happy and the girls on the team and the coaches were too. I am so pleased to see her out there running again,” said Bear River High School’s girls’ cross-country coach Tyrell Neal.

Tomlinson gave the Bears that important #5 runner for team scoring and having Tomlinson is a big help, coaches said. Tomlinson’s first race of the season came in with a time of 21:42 minutes.

Kenya is a senior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Morgan and Angela Tomlinson.

Kace “Bucket” Jones, a senior at Bear River High School, has had a remarkable season on the football field earning him this week’s Headliner Athlete of the Week.

On Sept. 25, against Green Canyon High School, Kace had a big game and accounted for 226-yards rushing, two touchdowns and two-2-point conversions.

On August 14, against Juan Diego High in Draper. Kace finished the game with over 200-yards rushing and three touchdowns. Defensively, he had three sacks to go with many tackles that night.

“Kace does an amazing job reading zone and hitting the holes hard. He also was very quick to thank his offensive line. Kace is a special athlete,” said Bear River High’s head football coach Chris Wise.

Kace is the son of Nathan and Rachel Jones.
