BOX ELDER COUNTY – By Cari Doutre - September 15, 2020

A woman is recovering from injuries in an apparent assault that took place on Sept. 14, at Willard Bay in Box Elder County and authorities are still trying to piece together exact details.

According to the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, a call was made to dispatch at Box Elder Communications at approximately noon. The caller reported a woman in distress near a dike on the northwest side of Willard Bay.

“Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered the 59-year old victim suffering from what appeared to be blunt force injuries and she described that she was choked,” the department stated in a press release on Sept. 15.

Authorities at the scene located an unoccupied suspect vehicle nearby.

“The suspect was then located some distance away from the vehicle, in an open area, unresponsive,” the statement added.

The suspect, Douglas John Hulse, 51, of Willard, Utah, was administered NARCAN (an opioid reversal medication used to treat possible overdose victims) by emergency responders. Responders were able to revive Hulse.

Hulse was taken into custody for aggravated assault. He was treated and evaluated at an area hospital. According to the report, Hulse will be transported to the Box Elder County Jail upon his release from the hospital.

Authorities have not released details regarding the relationship between the victim and the suspect as it is “still unclear,” the report added.

Further investigation is continuing in this case and no further details, including a booking photo of the suspect, have been released by the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office.
