NEWS - "Construction on I-15 near Tremonton expected to last through fall 2020"

BOX ELDER COUNTY – By Cari Doutre – April 19, 2020

The Utah Department of Transportation has already started road construction on I-15 near Tremonton and expects the project to be completed by October 2020.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, lanes will be reduced to just one in each direction from the Bear River bridge (milepost 375) to the I-15/I-84 junction (milepost 379) for several months. Construction crews will be working on bridge maintenance.

Lanes will soon close in both directions on I-15 before all traffic is shifted to the southbound side of the interstate until June 2020. Once work is complete on the northbound lanes, traffic will be shifted to those lanes for crews to work on southbound bridges.

The Utah Department of Transportation added that crews will be using hydro-demolition to remove, and replace, a few inches off the top of the pavement on nine bridges. Using high pressure water jets, crews will be able blast away existing concrete that will allow them to leave most of the pavement and reinforcing steel intact.

Replacing the top layers of pavement on those bridges not only extends their usability but also provides smoother pavement for drivers, UDOT added.

The department is advising that drivers expect delays in that area. Lane restrictions will remain in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week but work on the project is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
