The male driver of a passenger car sustained severe trauma after striking a cow on SR-102 at MM 14 on Sunday night, February 27.

According to a report from Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. The man, 38, of Bothwell, was traveling west just west of I-84 in a Honda when he hit a black cow in the roadway. He was unconscious when troopers arrived and had to be extricated.

He was transported by ambulance to Bear River Valley Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to a Wasatch Front trauma center. He was listed as being in stable critical condition at the time.

UHP is still investigating how the cow, which did not survive, came to be on the roadway and if any other factors may have played a part in the accident.

The road was closed for approximately two hours.
