Fire crews from Snowville, Tremonton and Park Valley, as well as personnel from Box Elder County, battled a structure fire in Hansel Valley for most of Friday night and into early Saturday, June 17-18. Their efforts could not save two storage sheds but kept the fire from spreading to a home and other outbuilding.

Box Elder County Fire Marshal Corey Barton said the fire was called in by a passing motorist just after 7 p.m., but because there was no exact location, finding it was more difficult. Two large garage-type sheds with farm equipment and machinery were already engulfed with crews arrived. No one lived on the property, but owners had been there earlier in the day, Barton added.

Lack of water in the remote location was another issue. A tender was brought from Snowville to supply water as firefighters worked through the night to keep the flames under control. The last firemen cleared the scene about 2:30 a.m.

As to cause, that is still under investigation, according to Barton and the dollar loss to the buildings and their contents has yet to be determined.
