NEWS - Hay Fire Results in Hefty Loss

THATCHER-PENROSE - Ellen Cook, Headliner Media Specialist, July 5, 2022

A large stack of newly baled hay caught fire Tuesday morning, resulting in a loss of about $167,000.

Box Elder County Fire Marshal Corey Barton said the fire was reported just before 10:30 a.m., July 5. Crews from Thatcher-Penrose, Tremonton, Corinne and Box Elder County arrived on scene to find a haystack of about 350 one-ton bales and a tractor burning. The fire was also threatening nearby structures.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading and remained on the scene to watch for additional hot spots.

Barton said the fire will likely smolder for the next week or so until the fuel source is depleted. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
