NEWS - "I-84 construction starts between Tremonton and Howell"

BOX ELDER COUNTY – By Cari Doutre – June 25, 2020

Summer construction along Utah’s freeways and highways is underway including several projects in Box Elder County that have already started with more planned.

On June 22, the Utah Department of Transportation started an $8 million reconstruction project on I-84 in northern Box Elder County. That project will span 15 miles of freeway between Howell and State Route 102 near Tremonton that heads east and west.

The project will improve safety and lifetime of the surface of the road. Work crews will remove and replace damaged concrete panels, UDOT will update road signs and install concrete crash barriers. The Utah Department of Transportation expects the project to last through late fall.

Lanes along I-84 in this area will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Speed limits will be dropped to 70 mph and work is expected to be done 24 hours a day with active construction from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Another reconstruction project for I-84 from Snowville to the Idaho State line started June 15 and is expected to be completed by September 30.

Construction along I-15 near Tremonton called the Splits Bridge Preservation project is still underway. More on that project can be found at this previously published article.
