BEAR RIVER HIGH – By Holden Richards, Headliner Sports Writer, December 8, 2021
The Bear River High boys’ wrestling team made their 2021-2022 season debut last weekend at the Syracuse Scuffle, December 3-4. The Bears went 7-1 in dual action and outscored their opposition 377-172 in their wins. The Bear’s only loss during the two-day event was to 6A’s Syracuse High - by a slim margin. The Bear’s success was spearheaded by undefeated wrestlers senior Kaeson Burn (195) and junior Max Miller. Miller, competing in the 120-pound weight division, dominated scoring bonus points in all eight of his matches, including six pins.
River Smith and Carson Pond each turned in solid 7-1 finishes while the freshmen in the varsity lineup shined in their first high school tournament. Freshman Daxton Bingham (106) finished 7-1 with 7 pins. Freshman Max Anderson (215) wrestled tough going 6-2 on the weekend. The Bears are back in action next week hosting Davis High on Thursday, December 9. The Bear River boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams will be wrestling side-by-side that night as the Lady Bears will take on the Davis High girls’ wrestling team on the north mat. Junior varsity matches begin at 5:30 p.m. and varsity is set for 7 p.m.
