ELWOOD - May 26, 2022

An 85-year-old Box Elder County man had to be extricated from his vehicle after going off the road on Hwy. 13 in Elwood Thursday morning, May 26.

Sgt. Arik Beesley with Utah Highway Patrol said the man was in a red passenger car heading south at 8:45 a.m. and appeared to have passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone just prior to the freeway on-ramp. He then struck the rear tire of semi-truck, causing him to leave the roadway and go through a guardrail.

His car then traveled about 20 feet down an embankment, trapping him inside.

Emergency personnel from Tremonton arrived on scene to extract the man, who was then taken to Bear River Valley Hospital with lacerations to his face.

The driver of the semi, who was from Mexico, was not injured.
