Tremonton's Duty Chief Chris Scothern said the fire was reported about 5:15 p.m., and was caused by a swather cutting hay in a field below the canal. Seven units with 13 firefighters responded to battle the blaze but, with a strong wind blowing, the flames quickly spread from one field to another, burning about three acres before the crews were able to bring it under control. Having the canal as a natural firebreak helped with that containment, he added.

Scothern said the fire was reportedly contained just before 6 p.m.
