NEWS - Near-drowning incident reported at Mantua Reservoir

MANTUA - January 28, 2022

Brigham City Fire Department responded to an urgent report of a possible drowning incident Friday morning, January 28, at Mantua Reservoir.

The call came in about 10:43, and crews were on scene within minutes. Upon their arrival, however, they learned that the victims, three juveniles, had fallen through the ice but all three had been with adults and had been removed from the water immediately. They were evaluated at the scene.

According to a press release, the youth were at the reservoir with a school group for an activity and were well supervised. That event was cancelled at the request of the department and "Unsafe Ice" signage was placed in the area where the falls occurred.

Mike Young, Brigham City Fire Marshal, asked that all individuals, young and old, use extreme caution and utilize personal flotation devices when recreating near the ice as it can be very unpredictable. He added that juveniles should always be accompanied by adults.
