A controlled burn in Thatcher Wednesday afternoon, April 20, turned into much more, bringing firefighters from Thatcher and Tremonton to extinguish it.

Thatcher fire chief Joshua Rhees said his department was called just before 1:30 p.m., after a farmer burning ditch banks at 7680 N. 12400 W., had the wind change on him. Flames got into some large bundles of stacked cardboard boxes, as well as a few hay bales. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze away from some farm equipment, but two flatbed utility trailers were lost in the fire.

Thatcher received mutual aid from Tremonton's department, and Garland and Corinne were also called, but crews had the fire under control before they could respond.
