NEWS - "Peach Days celebration cancelled for 2020"

BRIGHAM CITY – July 2, 2020

The Box Elder Chamber of Commerce posted the following statement on social media on Thursday, July 2, 2020:

BRIGHAM CITY, UTAH -- As organizers of the Brigham City Peach Days Festival, we have been closely monitoring the ever-evolving COVID-19 crisis. Based on the high degree of uncertainty about what the coming months will hold; and after consulting city officials, local health department, and local community groups; and in the best interest of the general public, our volunteers, vendors, businesses, and the non-profit groups that are involved, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Annual Peach Days (scheduled for September 9 - 12, 2020).

“While we are disheartened at the thought of a year without this traditional event, we feel that moving forward with the given uncertainty would be a risk to our community, businesses, volunteers, vendors and guests,” says Monica Holdaway, executive director of the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce. “We also want to make sure we are able to provide the support our local business community needs at this time. Peach Days will be back, and we will endeavor to make it better than ever, but for now we will focus on our business members to make sure they too return stronger than before.”

“This was one of the hardest decisions the Chamber and the Board has had to make in a very long time,” says Marcie Powell, president of the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce Board. “Knowing the rich history and tradition behind Peach Days I can assure you this decision was not made lightly or without extensive conversation amongst the Board. However, and with the current State guidelines the health and safety of our community is much more important to us.”

Mayor Vincent of Brigham City said, “I have been very hopeful that Peach Days would move forward, however, in light of the recent uptick in Covid19 cases, I support the Chamber’s decision to cancel. We appreciate the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce to try to make Peach Days happen.”

The Box Elder Chamber supports over 400 businesses members. We strongly encourage our many fans, supporters and community to find ways to continue to support these wonderful organizations and businesses in the months ahead. We will be back for Peach Days 2021, September 8 – 11. For more information, please visit the Peach Days website at peachdays.com
