BOX ELDER COUNTY - By Ellen Cook, Headliner Media Specialist, April 2, 2022
A rollover on the East Promontory Road Friday night, April 1, claimed the lives of two teenagers and left three others with serious injuries. All five were from Weber and Davis counties.
A press release from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said the five were in a 1997 Toyota 4Runner traveling northbound near 2000 S., about 10:30 p.m., when the vehicle apparently drifted onto the east shoulder and then crossed over to the west before the driver overcorrected back to the east.
The SUV then rolled at least twice before landing on the driver’s side. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts and all five were ejected.
When medical help arrived River Manning, an 18-year-old male, was found deceased. Gage Manning, a 17-year-old male, was transported to the hospital by medical helicopter but later succumbed to his injuries.
The other three occupants, a 19-year-old male, a 19-year-old female and a 15-year-old female all suffered serious injuries but are expected to recover.
According to the release, alcohol consumption and speed are being investigated as contributing to the crash.
It is unknown which of the teens was driving, and that is still being investigated, Chief Deputy Cade Palmer said.
“We express our condolences to the families and friends of the injured and deceased who are grieving during this difficult time,” the release concluded.
Assisting at the scene were county deputies, Utah Highway Patrol, Northrop Grumman EMS, Corinne EMS, Thatcher EMS, Brigham City EMS, Life Flight, Air Med and Air Life.
