Speed was a contributing factor in a fatal crash on SR-30 near Beaver Dam at noon on Thursday, September 23.

Information provided by Utah Highway Patrol said a 1993 Honda Accord, driven by Mercedes Davis, 22, of Providence, was traveling westbound at milepost 98 when it attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone at a high rate of speed. Witnesses said the driver lost control as she went around the other car and spun into oncoming traffic.

The Honda ended up sideways and was hit by an eastbound 2000 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Blaine Wright, 68, of Portage, causing it to overturn. Davis suffered fatal head injuries in the crash.

The driver of the Ford and a passenger, 35-year-old Jeremy Wright, also of Portage, were transported to Logan Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
