BOX ELDER COUNTY – By Cari Doutre – September 7, 2020

Two children ages 10 and 11, were involved in an ATV accident on Monday, September 7, 2020, in Riverside and authorities are reporting that the children were checked on the scene by emergency medical professionals and neither suffered injuries.

According to the Box Elder Sheriff’s Office in a press release, “Box Elder Communications received a call at approximately noon from an individual that found a girl walking along the canal road.”

“The girl reported that she and her brother were riding an ATV in the area and had rolled it over into the canal. The girl, 10 years old, stated that she was able to climb out of the canal but that her brother, 11 years old, stayed with the ATV in the water. She did not know if he was injured or not,” the statement continued. Both children were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Along with Search and Rescue crews, a medical helicopter, various other law enforcement agencies and neighbors, responded to the area but were later cancelled when the boy was found by a neighbor walking along the canal.

Authorities have yet to find a point of entry for the ATV, but authorities did find a seat from the ATV floating in the canal. The investigation in this case is continuing.
