SCHOOL – "Put on your dancing shoes for the Dancing with the Bear River Stars 2021"

The sophomore class at Bear River High School is excited to present their annual fundraiser event Dancing with the Bear River Stars, Friday, April 9 at 6 p.m. at the Bear River High gym.

Students from various clubs and groups will dance and compete for the first-place title. Tickets are $5 with one free voting ticket. More votes can be purchased at the event for $1. Tickets can be purchased online on the link below. Seating is limited to 70% capacity and masks must be worn by all guests.

Preston Higley and Tanya Black

Tanya Black (dancer) is a senior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Marlene and David Black. She is dancing with Preston Higley. Their theme is “Pirates of the Caribbean.” They chose this because they watched it all the time growing up and they both love it so much. Their song is a mashup of theme songs from the movie. Tanya’s favorite food is anything with potatoes and meat. She is competing in Dancing with the Bear River Stars because it was something she has always wanted to do and she has loved dancing and watching it in the past.

Preston Higley (star) is a senior representing the Key Club. His favorite activities are basketball, hunting and fishing. His parents are Zach and Shelley Higley. Preston wanted to do Dancing with the Bear River Stars last year but it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now he is back and ready to win it all.

Kaeson Burn and Zoey Sorenson

Zoey Sorenson (star) will be representing Bear River High Cheer. She is a junior and is the daughter of Teri and Nolan Sorenson. Zoey’s dancing because she was asked but it also sounded fun to her. After high school Zoey wants to go to college in Hawaii. She loves to cheer, dance, play softball, hangout with friends and jam out to music.

Kaeson Burn (dancer) is a junior at Bear River High and is the son of Ryan and Merisa Burn. He loves wrestling, football and motocross. Their dance theme is the “Dukes of Hazzard” and their costumes are western. They are dancing to “These Boots are Made for Walking” by Nancy Sinatra. Kaeson is doing Dancing with the Bear River Stars because it sounded fun.

Sami Pehrson (star) is a senior at Bear River High and loves sushi! Sami is representing the drama department and is strongly ‘repping’ the “Popeye and Olive Oil” T.V. characters. Sami’s parents are Brandon Pehrson and Kaycee Pehrson/Grady Wood and Melisa Pehrson. Some of the things Sami likes to do is perform in theatre productions and dance. Some of Sami’s favorite teachers at BRHS are Derek Sorenson and Jessi Nye. After high school Sami then plans on going to college and becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner.

Maverick Christensen is a junior at Bear River High and is the son of Jed Christensen and Tiffany Mansfield.


Kourtlan Rasmussen and Haylee Dimond

Haylee Dimond (dancer) is a senior at Bear River High. Haylee loves soup but she especially loves the soup of the day. Haylee says her favorite teacher is Mike Wazowski - but we’ll let her be the decision maker today. Haylee’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Diamond - according to her. Haylee says her favorite class is working at Taco Time during Parent Release. This is her favorite class because it pay’s and it gives education on the fast food industry. After high school, all Haylee wants, according to her is “feel appreciated.”

Kourtlan Rassmussen (star) is the son of Preston and Melissa Rasmussen. Kourtlan is a senior at Bear River High and loves Beto’s breakfast burritos. Kourtlan’s favorite teachers at BRHS are Wade Walton and Brother Rees. Kourtlan especially loves jazz band and seminary. After high school, Kourtlan plans on serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Franklin Rees and Kylee Stevens

Kylee Stevens (dancer) is a junior at Bear River High. Kylee’s parents are Curtis and Amy Stevens. Kylee is a super fan of shredded beef enchiladas. Some of Kylee’s favorite activities are tennis, band and basically any outdoor activities. After high school Kylee plans on serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Franklin Rees (star) is a junior at Bear River High and is representing track and field. His favorite food is breakfast burritos, he loves running, buying socks, NOT dancing and definitely NOT Viking ancestry. His parents are Kirt and Karlaee Rees. Franklin wanted to do Dancing with the Bear River Stars because it looked fun and he had nothing else better to do at the time.

Ashton Harrow and Olivia Chournos

Ashton Harrow (dancer) is the son of Jeff and Lisa Harrow. Ashton is a junior at Bear River High and his favorite teacher is Mr. Richey. A few of Ashton's favorite activities include baseball and hiking and his favorite food is pasta. Ashton and his partner Olivia are going to be representing the student council for their club and are dancing as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from “Tangled.” After high school Ashton is planning to go into business.

Olivia Chournos (star) is a junior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Clay and Hayley Chournos. Her favorite food is pasta and she will be representing the student council club. After high school Olivia plans to go to college.

Joey Gallegos and Elise Roskelly

Joey Gallegos is a sophomore at Bear River High and his favorite food is pizza. He chose to do Dancing with the Bear River Stars because he enjoys dancing and he thought it would be really fun. Not only does Joey enjoy dancing, one of his favorite things to do is theater. His parents are Joey and Emily Gallegos. After high school he wants to become a psychologist.

Elise Roskelly is a sophomore at Bear River High and is representing the Tough Club with her partner Joey. Their T.V. show they are dancing to is “Dora the Explorer.” After high school Elise plans to go into cosmetology. Elise is the daughter of Paul Roskelly and Wendy Cox. She decided to do Dancing with the Bear River Stars to support her partner Joey.

Easton Lish and Anaiah Finlayson

Anaiah Finlayson is a senior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Laura and Kingi Finlayson. Her favorite food is sushi. Her and her partner, Easton, are using the theme “High School Musical.”

Easton Lish is a senior at Bear River High and is the son of Drew Lish and Marcy Lish. Easton is involved in several sports at Bear River High. His favorite activity is playing baseball. He enjoys so many classes at the high school such as baseball, ceramic and Counselor Aide. When he is finished with high school, Easton wants to serve an LDS mission and finish college and while doing this he wants to get married in the temple.

Cael Wilcox and Kinley Richards

Cael Wilcox (star) is a senior at Bear River High and is representing the wrestling team. Cael’s parents are Gene and Shelley Wilcox. His favorite foods are steak and shrimp and he loves being outdoors. His favorite teacher is Coach Wilcox and his favorite class is seminary. Cael chose to do Dancing with the Bear River Stars because it is fun. After high school he is planning on going to Utah State University and becoming a commercial pilot.

Kinley Richards (dancer) is a junior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Ted and Calli Richards. She loves everything about dance and anything associated with it. Her favorite activities would have to consist of cheer and dance and this is why she took one of her favorite classes dance company taught by one of her favorite teacher; Miss J. When she’s not dancing you can find her eating sushi while studying for sports psychology. After she graduates from high school, she wants to go to USU to study to be an athletic trainer. When she was asked why she decided to do Dancing with the Bear River Stars this year she talked about how it always looked fun and you only live once so she decided to take the chance.

Tanner Corbridge and Paige Petersen

Paige Petersen (dancer) is a senior at Bear River High and is the daughter of Stuart and Misty Petersen. Her favorite teacher at Bear River High is Mr. Cobabe and her favorite class to attend is Studio Art. After high school she wants to travel the word and become rich and famous. She wants to live in a Volkswagen van and possibly become a Disney princess. Besides planning dances for the high school, she can be seen painting, singing, acting, traveling the world, playing tennis and hanging with those she loves most. She loves to do those things while eating either sushi or sandwiches or a little bit of a combination of both. She will be representing the Library Book Club and when asked why she wanted to do Dancing with the Bear River Stars she replied, “to help our sophomore class!” Paige remembered when she was a sophomore and how much it meant to her when others danced and raised money for them.

Tanner Corbridge (star) is the son of Rick and Adella Corbridge. Tanner is a very energetic person that loves to read, hike and listen to music. He is currently a senior at Bear River High and his favorite teacher is Margo in the library. His favorite classes are Health Sciences and being able to be a library aid with his favorite teacher. After he is done with high school, he would love to serve an LDS mission and continue his education. He will be representing the Bear River High School Book Club for the 2021 Dancing with the Bear River Stars. He chose the theme “Flintstones” because it was fun and such a clever cartoon as a kid. Tanner will be rockin’ a brown tunic with the bone jewelry, just like cave people used to wear. When asked why he was doing Dancing with the Bear River Starts, his reply was “Paige wanted me to.”
