Pandemic or not there’s still a “Grinch” at Bear River High School this year – on the stage, of course!

Bear River High School’s Theatre Department presents How the Grinch Stole Christmas and there’s still time to catch the show in-person or watch from the comforts of home with a rental of a pre-recorded performance.

“We are absolutely thrilled we are still able to put on our production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. With everything going on, many after school activities are being put on hold. We are fortunate enough to continue to do what we love,” said Derek Sorensen, Bear River High School Theatre Department’s drama teacher and director.

The school’s performance of How the Grinch Stole Christmas stars one of their youngest actors.

“Olivia Bailey, a 9th grader, plays our Grinch. She is so great at acting and just gives it her all when she’s on stage. Paityn Petersen plays our Cindy Lou Who and is an absolute delight to watch perform. She is perfect for the role,” Sorensen said.
“The entire cast makes me love my job even more. They are so positive and caring and just want to have the best experience possible,” he added.

The production also includes a talented writer close to the show.

“The script was adapted by my lovely wife, Leisl. She’s so talented at writing and gives the story that we all know and love a new vision,” Sorensen said.

Bear River High is also taking steps to keep the community safe.

“We are taking every precaution necessary to be able to still have in person performances. We have decreased seating down to one-third capacity, groups will be socially distanced from other groups, masks are required to be worn throughout the performance. We ask if you are feeling sick at all, please stay home,” Sorensen said.

Showtimes for Saturday, Dec. 5, are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. with their last performance on Monday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Bear River High School auditorium.

“Something that we have brought on this year is our Video on Demand option. For those of you not able to come to a live show, we have pre-recorded a performance of the show and that is available to rent and watch from home using our ticketing website. It’s such a great option for those sick, quarantined or otherwise unable to come. That will be available until Dec. 10,” Sorensen added.

All tickets must be purchased online in advance for in-person performances How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Purchase tickets and video on demand rentals on the links below.
