BEAR RIVER HIGH – By Tate Atkin, Headliner Sports Editor, May 4, 2022

It has been a difficult year for the boys’ soccer team at Bear River High but just as quickly as the region season came to an end for the Bears, so did the 2022 4A state tournament.

The struggles have come from both offense and defense this year for the Bear River boys’ soccer team as the Bears have given up a total of 72 goals while only being able to score 14 for themselves. Although the Bears lost many of their games by a large margin this year, they also came up just short in four games that were decided by just one goal.

On Tuesday March 12, the Bears visited Sky View High on a 9-game losing streak to start the Region 11 season. It was another close contest with the Bears and Bobcats battling for the win until the very end. After multiple heartbreaking and close defeats this year, the Bears were finally on the winning end of a game when they bested Sky View High that day, 2-1. The win was the first of the season for the boys’ soccer team at Bear River.

Bear River hoped the win would be the one to turn things around for them and get them winning again. Unfortunately, that momentum was short-lived as the Bears dropped their next five region games ending the region season with an overall record of 1-14. That record places them at the bottom of the Utah High School Activities Association’s 4A state rankings.

The Bear River High boys’ soccer team put the Region 11 season behind them and began state playoffs on May 3. The Bears traveled to St. George to face the 4th ranked team in 4A during the first round of state playoffs losing to Deseret Hills High, 8-1.
