The Bear River Junior High Wrestling program had an outstanding weekend at the 1A-4A Junior High/Middle State Tournament in Richfield, January 20-21. Competing against numerous other 1A-4A schools, the boys’ team from Bear River took home the first-place trophy in 4A while the girls’ team from Bear River won the overall 1A-4A first place trophy and both in dominating fashion.
This was the 9th first place state championship title over the last 11 years for the Bear River Jr. High boys’ wrestling program. As for the girls’ team, this is just the second year that Utah has had a separate girls division in the junior high wrestling with Bear River taking home the title both years.
In the boys’ divisions, Bear River had 48 wrestlers competing for individual state titles while the girls had 18 total competing. In the end, the Bear River had seven boys in the finals with Nixon Canfield, a 6th grader from Tremonton, bringing home a championship title. Canfield pinned his opponent from Millard in the finals and bringing his overall season record, 54-8.

From Bear River in the girls’ junior high division, 14 wrestlers made it to the state championship finals on Saturday with eight wrestlers taking home the title. Harlym Ward, Kynlee Douglas, Presley Call, Elliemay Sorensen, Chrissa Hawkes, London Gamble, Blayke Hess and Brooke Misrasi were crowned state champions with many other placers in the state tournament.
