SPORTS – “Bears rumble with the best at Lady Hawk Rumble”

A fifth place finish out of 21 teams wasn’t too shabby for the Bear River High School girls’ wrestling team as they took on the Lady Hawk Rumble on Saturday, Jan. 23.

Held at Ridgeline High School in Millville, the Bears had a total of nine wrestlers place in the top six in their bracket at the Lady Hawk Rumble.

Bear River High junior Shanna Archuleta (245) took third place at the tournament pinning Kennedy Peapealato from Mountain Crest High in their final match.

Finishing in fourth place for the Bears included senior Carisa Epling (108), junior Hailey Branch (124), senior Cierra McFarlane (128) and senior Teia Gonzalez (160).

In fifth place at the tournament was freshman Samara Ward (115). Making the podium in sixth place for the Bears was sophomore Tassie Hatch (120), freshman Emma Petersen (132) and junior Haylee Farnsworth (170).

The Lady Bears finished with 109 points overall as a team with Mountain Crest High, Copper Hills High, Fremont High and Maple Mountain High taking the top four spots at the tournament.

Up next for the Bears is a home meet against Layton High School on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m.
