BEAR RIVER HIGH - By Justus Wise, Headliner Sports Editor, January 19, 2022
The Bear River High boys’ basketball team sealed their preseason with a dominating win over Ogden High, a tight-fought battle against Weber High that ended in a close loss and a hefty loss to Pocatello High in which, according to Head Coach Reggie Shaw, the team “struggled with energy early on and dug [them]selves in a hole [they] couldn’t get out of.”
The Bears’ first region game found them traveling to Hyrum to face off against the Mountain Crest High Mustangs on January 12. Despite the difficult losses preceding this game, or perhaps because of them, the Bears came out swinging and played a solid, physical game that resulted in their beating the Mustangs 47-34.
Although the Bears’ initial jaunt into region play was a successful one, the next battle for the Bears, against Green Canyon High, did not. The Bears struggled the whole game and fell to the Wolves 61-37, on January 14.
Despite a tough preseason and a less than ideal start to region play Shaw likes where the Bears are headed.
“The team is playing hard and even after the rough preseason I’m excited about the direction our program is headed,” Shaw said.
Bear River now sits with a 1-1 record in region and will go on to face the Sky View High Bobcats on Wednesday, January 19, on the road. Watch it livestreaming courtesy of Bear River Live on the link below starting at 7 p.m.
