Two Bear River High girls’ wrestling teammates are having a championship week on the wrestling mat after taking first place at a weekend tournament and at the 2022 Ross Brunson Utah All Stars Duals.

Josie Redman, a junior at Bear River High, defeated her opponent, Cristell Flores, during their All-Star match on January 11, held at Utah Valley University. Her recent win puts her overall record so far this season at 26-1.

Redman wasn’t the only Bear River High wrestler invited to compete at Tuesday night’s event.

Sadie Hardy (100), a junior at Bear River High, lost her match to the 1A-3A All Star, Aspen Nielson. Senior Sophie Miller (120) fell to her opponent, Valery Ethington from Juan Diego High (5A), in their All-Star match. Miller maintains a 21-6 overall record so far this season.

On Saturday, January 8, the Bear River High girls’ wrestling team took on the Mountain Crest Filly Invitational tournament in Hyrum where senior Hailey Branch brought home a 1st place finish for the Bears.

The Bears were able to secure a 3rd place finish out of 20 teams competing. The Bears brought 26 wrestlers to compete in the tournament.

Hailey Branch finished in 1st place pinning her way to the championship after getting the fall over Ashley Wilcox of Copper Hills High.

A number of girls were also able to reach the podium for the Bears. Finishing in 3rd place was Josie Redman and Bretlee Potter. Finishing in 4th place was Skylynn Thompsen, Tassie Hatch and Shanna

Archuleta. Finishing in 5th place was Bella Gunderson. Finishing in 6th was Sophia Miller. Finishing in 7th was Avery Cazzell, Sydnee Nielson and Rylie Smith. Finishing 8th was Samara Ward, Rhees Hatch, Eve Allsop and Haylee Farnsworth.

The Bear River girls wrestling team traveled to Ridgeline High and took on the Wolves from Green Canyon High in a region dual. A perfect score in High School Wrestling is 84 to 0. The Lady Bears were able to come close to that winning the dual 78 to 6. The Bears have a full team and most region opponents do not so the bears won 8 matches unopposed. In the remaining six matches Hardy, Branch, Rhees Hatch, Allsop and H. Farnsworth were able to get a full six points in their matches by pinning their opponent. Many other exhibition matches were wrestled as all the girls continued to make improvement.

Up next for the Bear River High girls’ wrestling team they will conquer and divide between two Saturday tournaments. The varsity team will travel to the Rumble in Salt Lake City and the junior varsity team will take on a tournament at Farmington High School on January 15.
