Jarett Giles, a senior at Bear River High School, took home the Region 11 boys’ golf title - his first region title in his high school career on the golf course.
The two-day Region 11 championship started on Monday, Sept. 28, at Glen Eagle Golf Course in Syracuse. As a team the Bears finished the first day of competition in third place (303 points), trailing Ridgeline High School and Green Canyon High School.
Individually that day, Giles golfed a 71, Dalton Jones finished the day with a 74, Ryker Bennett had a 78 and Dylan Christensen with 80.
The final day of competition took place at Hill Air Force Base in Layton on Tuesday, Sept. 29, where the Bears sealed the deal for a second- place overall finish in Region 11 with 322 points. Ridgeline High took first in region.
Giles golfed a 76, and combined with the previous day’s score, it was enough to earn the region title.

Christensen also made the podium in Region 11 taking 10th place individually. He golfed a 74 at Hill Air Force Base. Bear River High senior Marcus Callister (76), Greg Summers (83) and Padin Hartfiel (84) finished out the tournament for the Bears that day.
Up next for the Bear River High boys’ golf team is the 4A state championship tournament on October 7-9, at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville.
