SPORTS – “Gonzales takes first at MC Filly wrestling invitational”

Teia Gonzales, a senior at Bear River High School and a captain of the girls’ wrestling team, has something new to add to her growing wall of wrestling accomplishments – a first place trophy.

Gonzales took home the title in the 160-pound weight division during Mountain Crest High School’s MC Filly Invitational on Jan. 30.

Joining Gonzalez on the podium include fourth place finishers Carisa Epling (108), Samara Ward (115), Tassie Hatch (120) and Shanna Archuleta (245). In fifth place at the tournament was Cierra MacFarlane (128) and Bretlee Potter (245). Junior Haylee Farnsworth took sixth place (170), Sophie Miller finished in seventh place (136) and freshman Emma Petersen took eighth place (132) individually.

Bear River took fifth place overall out of 23 teams.

Earlier in the week the Lady Bears honored their graduating seniors for the Class of 2021 during Senior Night in a home dual meet where they hosted Layton High School on Jan. 27. Bear River secured a 48-18 win over Layton High.
