SPORTS – “High school winter sports and activities begins with restrictions”

BEAR RIVER HIGH – By Cari Doutre – December 8, 2020

A two-week mandatory break for all Utah High School Activities Association sanctioned events ended on Nov. 24, after a spike in COVID-19 cases in Utah started in September.

Now, with clearly defined rules and regulations set by the UHSAA and individual school districts and schools, the winter 2020-21 sports season is underway at Bear River High School.

On Nov. 30, Bear River High School’s Principal AJ Gilmore sent out an email (found below) to parents about restrictions regarding spectators at USHAA sanctioned events.

Due to our high-transmission rating, we will only be allowed to have parents attend. This means that only two parents will be allowed in the gym, two tickets per athlete that is playing or on the bench.

Until our transmission level decreases, we will be parents only, not even students or siblings. It’s better than no fans and way better than not playing at all, though still not ideal.

Masks will be mandatory! No mask - no spectating. Again, not ideal but we can support in an effort to allow our kids and students a chance to play, compete, act, sing, etc.

We will update as new things come along. Thanks for all your help and support!”

Competition has started for the Bear River High swimming and basketball teams. The boys’ wrestling team is slated to begin the season this weekend in Evanston, Wyo. The Bear River girls’ wrestling will hold Red and White matches on Friday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. at Bear River High.

Without the usual abundance of spectators in the stands this winter, Bear River Live, a locally owned and operated multi-media company in Tremonton, will continue their free livestreaming services for Bear River High sports fans.

Bear River Live was there for the Winter Classic boys' basketball tournament held Dec. 3-5, at Bear River High. Watch game highlights HERE
