BEAR RIVER HIGH - By Tate Atkin, Headliner Sports Editor, December 1, 2022
With a new head coach at the realms, the Bear River High girls' basketball team kicked off the season with a win against Malad on November 29, and new head coach Josie Pugsley. Pugsley, a Bear River High alumnus, played basketball at the collegiate level at both Snow College and College of Idaho. She will look to turn around a team that went just 5-17 last season including 2-8 in region.
It will be a tough start for the Bears as their first six games are on the road before their first home game on December 16. Adding another level of difficulty for Pugsley, the Lady Bears will be without senior Kate Dahle, who was one of last year's leading scorers as well as lead the team in rebounds and assists who opted not to play basketball this year.
The senior led team will help as the team adjusts to a new head coach and philosophy as they are returning six seniors who will have a major impact on this year's team, Gracie Riley, Bentley Lorimer, Crystal Park, Lexie Westermoreland, Jenna LaCroix and Shaylee McKee. Also returning to the court this year for the Lady Bears includes juniors Jacey Larkin and Angie Delgado and sophomores Tylee Bennett, Brooklyn Pond, Brooklyn Capener, Aubree Fry, Shelby Wilkinson and Saydee Pebley.
Bear River started the season with their annual Red and White game on November 16, but officially kicked off the season in Idaho as they traveled to Malad to face the Malad High Dragons on November 29, for a 52-40 win.
Coming up for the Bear River High girls' basketball team are five road games including a trip to southern Utah.
