Josie Redman, a junior at Bear River High School, continues her domination on the wrestling mat for the Bear River High girls’ wrestling team while sophomore Rachel Epling dominated at the Rockwell Rumble the week before.
Redman took first place on January 22, at the Lady Hawk Rumble tournament held at Ridgeline High School. Redman (140) went undefeated at the tournament pinning her opponent, Laci Larsen from Mountain Crest High, in the finals. Saturday’s win gives Redman a 30-1 overall record so far this season.
Five more Bear River wrestlers joined Redman in the finals on Saturday and included freshman Kate Bunce (110), sophomore Bella Gunderson (115), senior Hailey Branch (130), junior Bretlee Potter (190) and freshman Rylie Smith (235) – all taking home 2nd place for the Bears.
Also making the podium for Bear River included:
3rd place: Avery Cazzell (125) and Shanna Archuleta (235)
4th place: Sadie Hardy (100), Addy Doutre (125) and Haylee Farnsworth (170)
5th place: Sophie Miller (120) and Sydnee “Sydvicious” Nielson (190)
6th place: Rachel Epling (110) and Samara Ward (120)
The Bear River High girls’ wrestling team took 2nd place overall with 222 points behind Mountain Crest High with 260.5 points.

Earlier in the week the Lady Bears hosted Sky View High for a quick dual with the Bobcats. The varsity team won 66-6.
The weekend before both the boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams from Bear River High took on one of the toughest tournaments in the state January 14-15, the Rockwell Rumble. The boys’ varsity and junior varsity wrestled both Friday and Saturday while the girls’ varsity wrestling team joined them at the tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Bears finished in 4th place out of 33 teams competing. The following girls took their spots on the podium for Bear River:
1st place: Rachel Epling
2nd place: Bretlee Potter and Shanna Archuleta
3rd place: Haylie Branch
4th place: Haylee Farnsworth
5th place: Bella Gunderson
7th place: Tassie Hatch and Josie Redman
8th place: Sadie Hardy and Sophie Miller
Up next for the Bear River High girls’ wrestling team is a trip to Green Canyon High School on Tuesday, January 25, for a Region 11 dual meet.
On Wednesday, January 26, the Lady Bears will host their final home meet of the season and honor the five seniors on the team. Junior varsity is set to begin at 6 p.m. with varsity at 7 p.m.
