SPORTS – “Recapping the week in Bear River High sports: Sept. 8-12, 2020”

A quick recap of Bear River High School sports for the week of September 8-12, 2020.


BEAR RIVER HIGH GIRLS’ SOCCER

On Sept. 3, the Bears traveled to Green Canyon High for a 3-0 loss in Region 11 play.

Bear River High’s keeper Lyza Pebley had several dives and sliding tackles while McCabrie Price and Kelly Winward also had strong performances for the Bears’ defense against a tough Green Canyon team.

The Bears lost 8-0 to Sky View High on the Bobcats’ home turf on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Up next for the Bears is a home game on Tuesday, Sept. 15, against Mountain Crest High. Varsity game time is set for 6:30 p.m. on the football field and the Bears will be honoring graduating seniors for the Class of 2021.

Logan High School will visit the Lady Bears on Thursday, Sept. 17. Varsity game time at 3:30 p.m.

BEAR RIVER HIGH GIRLS’ TENNIS

Bear River High junior Erika Olsen continued her winning streak on the tennis court for the varsity Bears as she earned yet another win over Region 11’s Sky View High on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020.

At first singles, Olsen has consistently been beating her opponents – and handily too. She beat Sky View’s Rachel Laltin 6-0, 6-2.

The Lady Bears secured a 3-2 win over the Bobcats as a team with Bear River’s Katiejo Litchford earning the win 7-5, 6-3 in third singles.

At first doubles, sisters Carisa and Shannon Epling beat their Sky View opponents in four sets, (3-6, 7-5, 6-6, 7-4). The match lasted over three hours.

Kelby Jensen (second singles) and Jessa Carlson and Maddie Bywater (second doubles) lost their matches.

In junior varsity play the Bears lost 3-2. At second singles Bear River’s Kylee Stevens won 8-6. At second doubles Claire Throop and Sydney Wilkinson won their match 8-6.

Up next for the Lady Bears is an away match at Logan High School on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The Bears will then host Ridgeline High School on Thursday, Sept. 17, starting at 3:30 p.m.


BEAR RIVER HIGH CROSS-COUNTRY

Seniors for both the boys’ and the girls’ cross-country teams at Bear River High continue to dominate the course securing two individual first place finishes last week.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, the Bears hosted Green Canyon High and Grace High (Idaho) for a quick meet at the high school.

As a team, the Bear River boys’ varsity squad took first overall while the varsity Lady Bears’ squad took second place.

Seniors Daniel Curtis and Madison White both took first place in varsity races for the Bears.

Next up for the Bear River cross-country teams is the Cache Box race on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at American West Heritage Center in Wellsville. The race schedule will be as follows:

4:15 p.m. JV Girls
