SPORTS - "Triple overtime loss for Lady Bears soccer"

In Region 11 girls’ soccer, the Bear River Bears are set to start region play next week with four pre-season games already in the books.

Coached by head coach Jesse Esquivel and assistant coaches Kristy Noyes and Shawn Miller, a new coaching staff is leading the Lady Bears into the 2020 season with an overall 1-3 record so far this season.

Up next for the Bear River girls’ soccer team will be a Region 11 game on Tuesday, September 1. The Bears will travel to Ridgeline High School with varsity game time set for 3:30 p.m.

Here’s how the Lady Bears have stacked up so far this season:

BEAR RIVER VS. BOX ELDER - August 20 (at Bear River High School)

In their annual cross-county rivalry game, the varsity Bear River and Box Elder teams went head-to-head on Thursday, August 20, at Bear River High School ending the game tied 1-1. After triple overtime, and the teams still tied, the game turned into a shoot-out with Box Elder.

Up first in the shoot-out were the Bears, rotating every other opportunity with Box Elder. Shooting first for the Bears was senior Morgan Noyes, but missed the shot. Gracie Rilee’s shot was deflected by the Bee’s keeper while senior Naomi Tomlinson’s shot was also deflected by the keeper. Finishing up for the Bears in the shoot-out was freshman Chloe Cammack. Cammack’s shot missed the goal.

Bear River’s keeper Liza Pebley successfully deflected one of Box Elder’s shots during the shoot-out.

Box Elder captured the win 3-1.
