As the girls' volleyball season at Bear River High nears the latter half of the regular season, there is still time to turn around what has been a disappointing season so far for the Bears. Through their first 13 matches, the Bears have only won two matches, with a handful of losses between each.
On September 20, the Bears continued their region play as they hosted Green Canyon High. The Bears lost the first set 25-11. They improved in the second set before losing 25-20 and fell just short in the third set losing 25-23. Losing the match 3-0. Senior Kate Dahle led the way for the Bears statistically with 13 kills, 2 aces, and 15 digs. Sophomore Paisley Barfuss added 14 assists and an ace. Junior Saydee Adams added 5 kills, 2 aces, and 12 digs.
On September 22, the Bears visited Logan High and the two teams put on a show in a back-and-forth battle. Logan took the first set 25-23. Bear River bounced back and won the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-21. Logan rallied and won the fourth set 25-18, before the Bears won the fifth and final set 15-11, winning the match for Bear River by a final score of 3-2. It was the first win for the Bears since September 6.
Adams again put-up big numbers as she contributed 16 kills, 2 aces, and 12 digs, while receiving 25 serves. Dahle had 15 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs. Junior Jozelan McDougal added 17 assists, 7 digs and 4 aces.
Bear River returned home to face Mountain Crest High on September 27. The Bears put up a good fight before losing to the Mustangs 3-0, with the set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-16. Adams piled up 5 kills, an ace, and 15 digs. Dahle added 4 kills, 2 aces, and 8 digs. Senior Mady Bird added 3 aces and 6 digs.
On September 9, Bear River visited Ridgeline High to face a very tough Riverhawks team. Bear River lost in three sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 losing the march 3-0. McDougal racked up 3 aces, 5 digs, and 4 assists. Barfuss added an ace, 4 digs and 7 assists.
Bear River started the month of October at home as they welcomed in the number one team in 4A, the one loss Sky View High Bobcats on October 4. The Bears held their own and competed but fell to the Bobcats 3-0. The scores for the sets were 25-19, 25-17, 25-23. In the loss, Dahle contributed 4 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs. Barfuss added 2 kills, 2 digs and 6 assists. Adams had 3 kills, an ace, 7 digs and an assist.
October 7, the Lady Bears took on Judge Memorial High for a win but lost to Enterprise High and Juan Diego High in a tournament in Ogden. The following day, the Bears had three more competitors, Canyon View High, Ogden High and Bonneville High, losing all three.
Although it's been difficult up to this point for the Bears, there is still a lot of season left for them to turn things around and finish strong. Their upcoming games include the four games of the upcoming tournament and then back into region action.
