In a move to help prevent the COVID-19 (coronavirus) virus from spreading, the Utah Department of Health issued an order on Tuesday, March 17, that all restaurants, bars and food services in Utah suspend all dine-in operations for two weeks.
The order takes effect today, Wednesday, March 18, at 11:59 p.m.
However, food establishments and restaurants can still offer drive-thru, pickup and delivery options – just no customers dining in.
The Utah Department of Health strongly recommends that customers use online and telephone transaction services to pay for meals. “Cash payments are strongly discouraged,” the statement added.
Employees that handle credit cards or cash are required to use cleaning measures between each transaction. Any employee that handles cash or credit cards “may not participate in food preparation, handling or delivery.”
In the Bear River Valley, some restaurants had decided to close their dining rooms to customers before the order was issued.
The Pie Dump in Garland stated on March 17, “We feel like the welfare of our customers and employees are far more important than our bottom line. So, for now, our dining room will remain closed.”
The Pie Dump will offer takeout orders that can be picked up. They will only allow five customers in their establishment at a time for pickup orders. They ask that others remain outside until it is their turn to come in.

The Pie Dump is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon at 20 W. 1400 S., Garland.
The Grille Restaurant in Tremonton, 1410 W. Main St., Tremonton, is also offering takeout orders for customers to pick up.
“We really appreciate our customers and this community for all of their support,” said Karla Munns, owner of The Grille.
