The varsity team from Bear River High dominated the Evanston Invitational taking home first place. The Bears led the tournament with 261 team points, 119 points more than the second place finishers, Pinedale High from Wyoming.
The Bears were represented well in several weight divisions starting with sophomore Trenton Ward at 106. Ward took first pinning Kole Johnson from Grantsville High, in the finals. The Bears had big success in the heavier weight divisions starting with senior Maverik Skinner at 170.
Skinner defeated Mark Walker from Mountain View High, 6-2, in the finals. At 182 Bear River’s Tyler Howard pinned his opponent, Bridger Harris, also from Mountain View, in the finals. Paxton Smith, 195, took first place beating his teammate, Braxton Christensen in the finals with a pin. Christensen took second place individually.
Zach Phillips at 220, took first place with a pin over his opponent, Matthew Wolfard from Lyman High School. Two more Bear River teammates finished off the 285 weight division finals wrestling each other with Jeshua Koch defeating Logan Fraser a close 2-0.
Not to be outdone, the junior varsity team from Bear River also captured a first place team win at the Evanston Invitational scoring 165 points to second place finisher, Evanston High’s 130 points.
Three junior varsity wrestlers earned individual first place titles at the Evanston Invitational JV tournament. They include freshman Max Miller, 106, sophomore Brendon Wolfe, 152, and freshman Kwade Kosoff, 160.
