Already half-way through the season, the Bear River High softball team has been in overtime trying to make up for several weeks of delays due to weather and field conditions throughout northern Utah this spring. But now that the weather has improved and field conditions are playable, the Lady Bears are on a five-game winning streak with an overall record so far this season of, 10-2.
Suffering a close, 10-9, loss in their region season opener against defending 4A state champions, Ridgeline High, on April 10, the Bears are set to meet up with the Riverhawks once again on Friday, April 20.
Earlier this week the Lady Bears hosted county rivals, Box Elder High, on April 17, for a 7-2 win over the Bees. Sophomore lefty Bella Douglas had a huge game offensively bringing in five RBIs and going 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs. Douglas leads the team this season in hits (19), RBIs (21) and home runs (7).

Sailing past Logan High in Region 11 action on April 14, Bear River’s Kate Dahle shut down the Grizzlies for the win, 10-0, in five innings. Dahle struck out 12, giving up just two hits. Junior shortstop Kaya Towne led the Bears at the plate going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a triple. Senior Baylee Sorensen, sophomore Aubree Fry and Douglas all went 2-for-3 with triples from Sorenson and Fry.
Dahle led yet another shut out in the pitcher’s circle for Bear River on April 12, when the Bears hosted Tooele High for the 10-0 win over the Buffaloes. Dahle struck out 10 and gave up just one hit. At the plate, Fry led with two RBIs going 3-for-3 while Douglas put one over the fence in the third inning.
In a close region matchup against Mountain Crest High on April 11, Towne went 2-for-3 and Douglas brought in two runs that day including yet another home run this time in the fifth inning helping secure the win, 4-2. Dahle had the win in the pitcher’s circle striking out nine Mustangs allowing five hits and two runs.

Up next for the Bear River High softball team is a home game against Sky View High on Thursday, April 20, at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Bears will then travel to Ridgeline High on Friday, April 21, starting at 5:30 p.m.
