BR WRESTLING - "Skinner, Ward take first in Division B, Bears take second"

A total of 25 Bear River wrestlers have qualified for the 4A state tournament next week while today’s Division B championships crowned two individual Bear River champions.

The final day of Division B competition, held at Mountain Crest High in Hyrum on Saturday, Feb. 8, was a strong enough team performance from the Bears that they took second place overall with 457.5 points. Mountain Crest, the 2019 4A state champs, took first place in Division B today with 534.5 points. Stansbury, Canyon View and Green Canyon finished in the top five.

While 13 Bear River wrestlers went into today’s event undefeated, seven made it to the final match for a shot at first place.

Bear River junior Trenton Ward (106) continues his massive winning streak this season claiming a first place Division B medal. Ward pinned Daxton Darley from Green Canyon in the finals. Ward’s overall record this season is 46-1.

Senior Maverik Skinner (160) beat Wyatt Larsen from Mountain Crest in the finals, 17-2. Skinner was also named Outstanding Wrestler for the heavier weight divisions. Skinner’s record is currently at 45-5.

Skinner and Ward will be joined by 23 of their Bear River teammates that have qualified to the 4A state tournament to be held Friday-Saturday, Feb. 14-15, at Utah Valley University in Orem.
