FEATURE - "Celebrating 96 years of spunk for one Garland woman"

GARLAND – By Cari Doutre – August 8, 2020

Norma Thomas, 96, walked outside of her home in Garland on August 7, 2020, and stood in her driveway not sure what her family had planned for her on this special birthday of hers.

Looking down the street it soon became apparent as a line of vehicles, led by the Garland City Fire Department, slowly made their way towards her.

Inside those many vehicles slowly headed her way were friends and family members all there to wish her a very happy birthday – COVID-19 style. Waving, honking and displaying signs from their vehicles, Norma waved at her loved ones while her family members gathered gifts, signs and balloons for the birthday girl.

“Is this what you get for getting old?!” Norma asked with a laugh after the parade of birthday well-wishers ended.

Norma’s close friends and family members continued with a small private celebration after the birthday parade.
