BEAR RIVER HIGH - November 10, 2020
Baxter Wise and Madyson Mickelsen are this week’s featured Headliner Athletes of the Week at BRVNEWS.com - sponsored by Chanshare Farms. Thank you for supporting local journalism and high school sports in the Bear River Valley!
Bear River High School senior Baxter Wise is this week’s featured Headliner Athlete of the Week for his leadership, hard work and ability to overcome an injury to return to the Bear River High football team his final year.
“Baxter is an extremely smart and skilled offensive lineman. He is the leader on the offensive line and intelligent enough to make all the adjustments and make sure everyone else knows what they are doing,” said Tate Atkin, Bear River High School football’s offensive line coach.
“Baxter has worked hard and overcome injury to become a great player just like his dad and brothers before him. He is so coachable and made my job so much easier. I love Baxter Wise and will miss having him on the field,” Atkin added.
Baxter is the son of Chris and Nikki Wise of Tremonton.
This week’s featured Headliner Athlete of the Week goes to Madyson Mickelsen, a member of the Bear River High School girls’ swim team.
Madyson has dominated in the team’s first two meets this season and has gotten close to breaking three school records already for the 200 IM, 100 Back, and the 50 Free – records that have been on the school’s leader board for more than 16 years.
“She has been a leader in the pool by pushing everyone to get better. It is really great as a coach when you see a swimmer rise to a new level and she encourages everyone around her to join her. Madyson is also one of our team captains and has help to make the new kids feel comfortable and welcome. She is a joy to coach and a great teammate,” said Danny Esplin, Bear River High School swim coach.
Madyson is a senior and is the daughter of Ira and Jeniel Mickelsen of Garland.
