HEADLINER ATHLETES OF THE WEEK – Peter Nielsen and Shylee Kofoed – October 19, 2020

BEAR RIVER HIGH - October 20, 2020

Peter Nielsen and Shylee Kofoed are this week’s featured Headliner Athletes of the Week at BRVNEWS.com - sponsored by Chanshare Farms. Thank you for supporting local journalism and high school sports in the Bear River Valley!

PETER NIELSEN

Peter Nielsen, a senior at Bear River High School, is this week’s featured Headliner Athlete of the Week for taking first place in the Region 11 championships Oct. 13, 2020 in Wellsville.

Not only did Peter take home the individual title but he helped lead the Bear River High boys’ cross-country team to a Region 11 title as well.

“I knew that Peter (1st, 16:18) just needed to be smart for the start and then make everyone hurt. Several other boys were really improving but so was Peter. Almost breaking 16 minutes on this course means the school record at state (BRHS’s Chris Brower, 2008, 15:50) is in serious jeopardy. I think he has a state medal and that record on his mind,” said Bear River High School’s cross-country coach Dan Line.

Peter is the son of TJ and Merideth Nielsen.

SHYLEE KOFOED

This week’s Headliner Athlete of the Week for BRVNEWS.com goes to Shylee Kofoed for not only taking 8th place individually at the Region 11 girls’ cross-country championship meet on Oct. 13, 2020 but for her hard work, dedication and persistence this season.

“Shylee was injured back in June. She has been frustrated, down a little but we kept telling her she needed to chip away at things. She has and just like we told her she had her best race today. To end up on the medal podium was amazing. I am sure it will create a great memory for her. She still has big goals,” said Bear River High School’s cross-country coach Tyrell Neal.

Shylee is a junior at Bear River High School and is the daughter of Bryson and Kathrine Kofoed.
