Just south of the Tremonton Fire Department, and close enough away from the city’s other facilities, is a makeshift kitchen. Sitting alone outside, the kitchen features just one side that includes cabinets and a stove.

It’s there for a reason.

Mike Allen, the fire department’s fire prevention captain who oversees trainings and fire safety, has started a series of fire safety demonstrations that serve as a fire department training tool for firefighters and to educate the community.

With over 40 years of experience as a firefighter, Allen knows his stuff and the exercises are meant to teach others the importance of fire safety.

“This is something that I want to get out to the public to teach fire safety,” Allen said.

The first demonstration, held Oct. 15, 2020 outside of the fire department, was all about fire safety in the kitchen.

“This year’s fire safety theme is Serving up Fire Safety in the Kitchen,” said Allen.

To get more viewers in the community involved, Allen invited Bear River Live, a livestreaming multi-media company in Tremonton, to come film the demonstration.

The night’s big event was how to properly put out a grease fire in a kitchen.

“We start out with the right methods and then we’ll show you the wrong methods that we don’t want you to do but what can happen,” Allen said.

And they did just that. Showing those in attendance that night, the department showed both the right and the wrong way to handle a grease fire in the kitchen.

Alpine Cleaning and Restoration Specialists donated materials used to build the mock kitchen.
