BRIGHAM CITY - By Ellen Cook, Headliner Media Specialist, February 27, 2022

The driver involved in a hit and run accident on Brigham City's Main Street Saturday night turned himself into to police on Sunday and has been booked into the Box Elder County Jail.

Brigham City Police Lt. Tony Ferderber said 67-year-old Eddy Garza was charged with one count of Failure to Remain at an Accident with Serious Bodily Injury, a third-degree felony. Garza left the scene after striking a 76-year-old man (initially reported as 70) who was crossing the street between 600 and 700 South just after 7 p.m. The area was not well-lit and there was no crosswalk.

Ferderber said Garza told police when he realized what had happened, he got scared and fled. He waited until Sunday to contact officers.

The victim in the incident was taken to Brigham City Hospital and then transported to an Ogden hospital with a broken pelvis, a large facial laceration and a concussion with altered mental state.
