OBITUARY - March 31, 2022

Mavis Ane (Goodey) Johnson

February 2, 1930 ~ March 27, 2022 (age 92)

Mavis Ane Goodey Johnson, 92, of Riverside, Utah returned to her heavenly home surrounded by her 3 children and a house full of grandchildren on Sunday, March 27, 2022. She was born February 2, 1930, in Clarkston, Utah to Richard Archie Goodey and Stella Kristine Petersen. She was the 9th of 11 children.

Mom married Elvis L Johnson on September 1, 1950, in the Logan, Utah Temple. Life with her eternal sweetheart was cut short when on January 25, 1974 his earthly mission ended. We cannot imagine the glorious reunion that must have taken place Sunday evening when after 48 years, 2 months and 2 days they embraced never again to be separated.

Mom devoted her entire life to living and loving the gospel. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings in all organizations throughout her life. She also served as an Officiator in the Logan Temple. She had a very strong testimony and not only endured to the end, but she endured well to the end. Her scriptures, the Liahona and the Come, Follow Me manual were always within her reach and she studied them diligently until her death. Her great example has been left and now it’s up to us to follow.

She was the mother of 2 sons and 2 daughters and the grandma of 17, great grandma of 40 and great-great grandma of 2. She was the Matriarch of a great posterity all of whom loved and respected her. We will all miss grilling burgers and hotdogs after the Easter egg hunt, the gathering on the 4th of July, canning tomatoes in the Fall, the Christmas parties and just hanging out at her house having a bologna sandwich or a frozen candy bar.

Mom didn’t need a lot of things to make her happy. Her family was her greatest joy and she often commented about being so grateful for the family she had and didn’t know how she ever deserved them. She loved flowers around her yard and loved to water them, but seldom got the opportunity to do so as a grand child would always want to help. She would often ask them if they knew that old people liked to water their own flowers as she handed them the garden hose. Mom also had a great sense of humor that we will sure miss.

Mom leaves behind her children, Jay (Nancy) Johnson of Elwood, Shanna Westergard of Tremonton, and Todd (Mary) Johnson of Riverside, and son in law Cleve Atkin of Deweyville and one sister, LaDawn Bench of Idaho and a whole lot of grandchildren that she loved with all her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 5 sisters, a daughter Vickie Atkin, a granddaughter, Brandee Jo Atkin, son in law, Cole Westergard and her eternal companion Elvis.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Noon with a viewing held prior from 10-11:30 A.M. All services will be held at the Belmont Church (16925 N 5200 W Riverside, Utah). Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
